January 19, 2017 Minutes

At the regularly scheduled meeting of the Fire and Police Pension Fund Board of Directors held on the 19th day of January 2017, President Craig Joel presided.  The meeting was held at the Pension Office, 6009 John Douglass Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37421.

The meeting convened at 0911 hours with board members Craig Joel, Kelly Simmons, Mark Coffman, Charlie Thomason, Tommy Meeks, Phillip McClain, and Vickie Haley. Attorney Bill Robinson was also present.

Motion by Phillip McClain and seconded by Charlie Thomason to approve the minutes of the January 5, 2017 meeting. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Mark Coffman and seconded by Tommy Meeks to approve the following membership items:

REMOVE FROM THE ROLLS:

  • Alice Malone, surviving spouse of Retired Police Lieutenant Kenneth Malone, Sr., effective 01/31/2017, died 01/05/2017 (2-411)

ADD TO THE ROLLS:

  • Fire Lieutenant Terry A. Jones, retiring with 20 years of service, effective 02/01/2017, participation date of 05/17/1996 (Fire Department Mandatory Retirement Age of 65 – full service multiplier is applied for each year of service)(2-411)

Motion carried unanimously.

The Board reviewed the bills paid since the last meeting.

Attorney Bill Robinson reported that on January 18, 2017, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in the Dodd case regarding the vesting of future benefits by active Member’s surviving spouse is not a vested benefit and the case had no merit.

Interim Fund Administrator Katrina Abbott updated the Board on day-to-day administrative operations of the Fund.

Motion by Phillip McClain and seconded by Kelly Simmons to adjourn at 0943 hours. Motion carried unanimously.

  • Personnel Committee met after regularly scheduled Board meeting
  • Laurie Adams with Wells Fargo will be appearing before the Board on February 2, 2017
