March 21, 2013 Minutes

At the regularly scheduled meeting of the Fire and Police Pension Fund held on the 21st day of March 2013, President Terry Knowles presided.  The meeting was held at the Pension Office, 6009 John Douglass Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37421.

The meeting convened at 0930 hours with board members Terry Knowles, Corliss Cooper, Jerome Halbert, Shawn O’Kelley and Ray Ryan.  Attorney Bill Robinson was also present.  Chris Willmore and Phillip McClain were in other work related meetings and arrived shortly after meeting convened.

Motion by Corliss Cooper and seconded by Jerome Halbert to approve the minutes from the March 7, 2013 meeting.  Motion carried unanimously.

FFS Tracy Williams appeared before the Board to present his application for job related disability.  Mr. Williams stated that he had suffered work related injuries.  President Knowles asked Mr. Williams if he had been told by a physician that he should not to return to work.  He replied that he had.  President Knowles asked if he had been cleared to work in regards to all of his job related injuries.  Mr. Williams said that his work related injuries alone had not been severe enough to prevent him from returning to work and that his Leave-Without-Pay was expiring on 03/24/2013.  President Knowles asked if he wished to proceed with his application for job related benefits.  Mr. Williams said that he did.  President Knowles accepted the application.

Jerome Halbert gave an oral report to the Board on his attendance at the Trustees Institute hosted by the International Foundation on Employee Benefits Plans.

No membership status changes were presented to the Board.

The Board discussed its fiduciary responsibility to examine the benefits provided by the Plan.  Motion by Ray Ryan and seconded by Corliss Cooper to have Attorney Robinson to expand his legal research to a national level.  Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Phillip McClain and seconded by Jerome Halbert to pay the bills.  Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Phillip McClain and seconded by Corliss Cooper to adjourn at 1121 hours.  Motion carried unanimously.
